For the past year, the company has been buying properties in Bonavista and renovating and repurposing them to breath new life into the town. Corrina Ryder, Shane Hayes and Ruth Weller-Malchow were on hand to accept the award.
The Sir William Ford Coaker Heritage Foundation was awarded the Not-For-Profit Business award. In handing out the award Chamber President John Norman stressed the importance of highlighting non-profit businesses.
“It’s a significant role they play in the local economy with the local spending and employment that’s involved and the direct and indirect spin-offs,” said Norman.
The Sir William Coaker Heritage Foundation was formed in 1995 and is dedicated to the preservation and development of the Historic District of Port Union.
A Sip Above Inc. (Robin’s Donuts) was given the Innovation Award given to a business offering new services in the region. Rodney Gray operates the business. He was unavailable for a photo on awards night.
Scotiabank Bonavista Branch was given the business of year award, given to an active member of the chamber for over 20 years.
In recent years, Scotiabank has given significant contributions to the Bonavista Dialysis Committee, Bonavista Historical Society, Townscape Foundation, Horticulture Society and more.
